Course Purpose
This course provides competencies for the design of sand mounds and sand-lined beds and trenches.
Course Content
- Concept of sand media bed systems.
- Theory of sand media based treatment, and ways to improve performance.
- System selection and vertical separation standards prescribing the use of raised sand mounds.
- Rationale for sand media standards and sand media testing.
- Opportunities and options for sand lined trenches and beds, bottomless sand filters.
- Sizing and configuration of raised sand mounds and sand lined beds or trenches.
- Exploring the mysterious basal loading check
- Understanding the Standard Practice Manual sand media specifications
- Exploring options for reduced system length where site constraints limit the available contour length
- Specifying and supervising the installation of sand mounds and other sand media systems
Format
- Two live, interactive online sessions via Zoom
- Instructor-led lectures with learning exercises/case study.

Cancellations received less than 7 days prior to the course are subject to a $100 administrative fee, with full reimbursement of the remaining balance. Substitutions of attendees is permitted up to and including the day of the course.
